Let me start off by saying, "What the bloomin' heck is going on here?" Jon Batiste's latest album, "World Music Radio," is a wild ride through a musical wonderland that is as unpredictable as British weather. Batiste, known for his eclectic mix of jazz, funk, and soul, takes listeners on a whirlwind tour of global sounds that will have you tapping your foot one minute and scratching your head the next. From the funky rhythms of "Jammin' in Jamaica" to the soulful melodies of "Serenade in Paris," this album is a musical passport that will leave you jet-lagged in the best possible way. The standout track, "Mumbai Madness," is a cacophony of sounds that shouldn't work together but somehow do. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, but then realising that it's a square hole all along. But not all is sunshine and rainbows on this album. "Berlin Blues" meanders a bit too much, feeling more like a long layover in an airport rather than a musical journey. And "Tokyo Tango" feels a bit too contrived, like Batiste is trying a bit too hard to be avant-garde. Overall, "World Music Radio" is a rollercoaster of a record that will leave you exhilarated, confused, and possibly questioning your taste in music.
