Raw to the Bone
Oh, dear Wishbone Ash. What happened? Raw to the Bone is like a forgettable blind date - you know you should probably give it a chance, but you just can't seem to muster up any enthusiasm. This album feels like it's trying to recapture the glory days of 70s rock, but ends up feeling more like a tired dad trying to fit into skinny jeans. From the moment the first track kicks in, you're hit with a wall of unoriginal riffs and lacklustre vocals that make you wonder if you accidentally stumbled into a cover band's rehearsal. The band's attempt to inject some energy into the album falls flat, leaving you wondering if they left all their creativity back in the 70s. The production on Raw to the Bone is, well, bone dry. It's like they recorded it in a garage with a broken microphone. The mix is muddy, the guitars sound tinny, and the drums feel like they're being played on a cardboard box. But, hey, it's not all bad. There are a few moments where you can see a glimmer of the band's former glory peeking through the thick fog of mediocrity. But those moments are few and far between, leaving you with an album that feels more like a missed opportunity than a triumph. Overall, Raw to the Bone is a lacklustre effort from a band that used to know how to rock. It's like watching your favourite uncle try to skateboard - you want to root for them, but you can't help but cringe at the results. Stick to the classics, Wishbone Ash. Stick to the classics.
