Introduction to Tarot Reading
Tarot cards provide a system of visual archetypes firmly ingrained in the human psyche. Tarot symbolism relates to archetypal figures and tropes that appear in myths and legends and can be related to one’s personal life experience. The 78 pictorial cards in the Tarot deck have been used for centuries to tell stories that people use to interpret and narrate their lives. This course introduces the basics of Tarot card reading by introducing you to the first 17 cards of the Major Arcana and outlining the underlying symbolism of each.We begin with an introduction to the Tarot deck which can be divided into the Major and Minor Arcana. We compare these two types but focus on the Major Arcana which provide more recognisable archetypes. The very first Tarot card is The Fool which is numbered ‘0’.The Fool’s journey begins with this card and this course follows each step it takes through the next 16 cards. We discuss the Empress and Emperor the Hierophant and many more figures that evoke characters from various mythological backgrounds and cosmologies from Arthurian legend to ‘Star Wars’. We follow the Fool’s journey to The Tower the 17th card in the deck. People use Tarot decks to tell stories and explore their psyches so sign up for this beginner Tarot course to acquire a new hobby that adds joy insight and a touch of whimsy to your life.(note: Tarot readings are for entertainment purposes only and should never take the place of professional therapy or professional legal medical or financial advice.)
