ThickenUp, alimento a fini medici speciali, è un addensante istantaneo in polvere, ideato per aiutare i pazienti con disfagia e difficoltà nella deglutizione delle soluzioni liquide. In particolare, può risultare utile per le persone anziane, individui affetti da distrofia muscolare o nei casi di interventi neurochirurgici, chirurgia maxillo-facciale o otorinolaringoiatrica, riabilitazione neurologica o neuromotoria, morbo di Alzheimer e di Parkinson. A base di amido di mais, privo di glutine e insapore, può essere aggiunto a cibi caldi o freddi senza alterarne il gusto o il colore. La densità degli alimenti può essere modulata mediante il quantitativo di prodotto addizionato in 100 ml di liquido originario: un cucchiaio per ottenere una sostanza della consistenza di uno sciroppo, da uno e mezzo a due cucchiai per una crema e fino a tre per produrre un budino. Un cucchiaio (4.5 gr circa) apporta 15 calorie, per un totale di 4.1 grammi di carboidrati e tracce trascurabili di proteine e grassi. Una confezione singola contiene 227 grammi di prodotto: il barattolo, una volta aperto, può essere conservato in frigorifero per un periodo massimo di 8 settimane.
