Cantina Lavis Trentino Nosiola 2023
A rare gem from the Alpine slopes of Trentino, this Nosiola is fresh, fragrant and so much fun. Think wild herbs, white flowers and soft orchard fruits. The palate is soft and textured, with notes of apple skin, quince, toasted almond and a flicker of white pepper and lemon pith. There's a subtle hazel-nuttiness that adds intrigue. A brilliant example of this elusive grape, and stunning value. Highly commended in The Wine Merchant Top 100. Nestled in the heart of Trentino, Cantina La-Vis is a proudly cooperative winery with deep roots and a strong sense of place. Though the winery’s origins date back to 1850, it was in 1948 that 14 local growers came together to form the cooperative, now supported by some 800 growers farming 800 hectares across Trentino and South Tyrol. Their vineyards stretch from the hills of Meano and Sorni to the steep, terraced slopes of the Valle di Cembra, with altitudes ranging from 200 to 800 metres. This gives them the flexibility to plant fuller-bodied reds on the lower slopes and delicate whites at higher elevations. Each vineyard site is matched to grape variety using an impressively detailed soil zoning project—known as the "Soil Map"—which has guided their planting since the 1980s under the simple but brilliant motto: the right vine in the right place. Vines are trained on traditional pergola and espalier systems, helping balance canopy and fruit while maximising sun exposure. Sustainability is a key pillar here too: they adhere to Trentino’s Integrated Production Protocol (SQNPI), reducing synthetic inputs and preserving biodiversity. Cantina La-Vis marries tradition and technology, crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines in one of Italy’s most dramatic alpine landscapes.
