Wine: A complex Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wine with pronounced herbal and fruity aromas. Flavours of dark and red berries, a little cherry with pepper and malt combine with a fine acidity and clear minerality to form a full-bodied red wine. This Spätburgunder has fine tannins, good substance, persistence on the palate and a juicy mineral finish. Vineyard:The name Sonnenberg translates as "sunny hill" or "sun mountain" in German. Here, the steep slopes have a 95% gradient and are south-facing. The Sonnenberg in Bad Neuenarh - located at 100-150 metres above sea level - has a favourable microclimate. The soil is a skelett-rich congomerate of greywacke to greywacke slate mixed with loam and loess. Scientific studies have shown this to be the warmest place in the entire Ahr valley. As a result the area offers optimal conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes and yields voluminous wines that retain a fruity, elegant and mineralic character. Vinification: Old vines, sustainable work and consistent yield reduction form the basis of this wine. The yield is around 30 hl/ha. Grapes were hand picked and gently pressed. The wine was then subject to spontaneous fermentation, 20 days maceration on the mash, aging in barrique French oak barrels (made from 70% new wood content) on the fine yeast for 18 months, then bottled unfiltered and stored for six months. Alcohol: 13,0% vol. Res. sugar: 0,2 g/l Acidity: 5,2 g/l
