The Brunel family has made wine at Chateau de la Gardine in Chateauneuf-du-Pape since the 17th century. This is their village-level Côtes du Rhône, made with the same attention to detail but from younger vines and outlying parcels. Grenache and Syrah blend typical of the southern Rhône. The 2021 vintage delivered wines with ripe fruit and good structure. Black cherry and raspberry with hints of strawberry, spice and subtle oak. Full-bodied with layered tannins and a touch of liquorice on the finish. Structured but approachable: this has the depth and polish you`d expect from a Chateauneuf producer but without the weight or price. Satisfying length. Serve around 16°C. Excellent with beef bourguignon, lamb stews, roasted meats, or grilled vegetables. The iconic flask-shaped bottle makes a great gift. Drinking well now, will hold 3-5 years.
