2018 Ramon Bilbao Rioja Reserva
Ramon Bilbao transformed from a traditional Rioja bodega into one of the region`s most dynamic producers under the Zamora Company. Their style bridges old and new Rioja, respecting oak aging traditions while emphasizing fresh fruit and balance over heavy extraction. This Reserva sees minimum three years aging with at least one in oak. The 2018 vintage in Rioja was excellent, delivering ripe fruit with structure. Cherry, plum and blackberry with vanilla, cedar and tobacco. Medium to full bodied with smooth tannins and bright acidity. The fruit has developed complexity with leather and earthy notes emerging, but there`s still freshness and vibrancy underneath. Oak is present but integrated rather than dominating. This shows modern Rioja at its best, balancing maturity with energy. Serve at room temperature (16-18°C). Brief decanting helps it breathe. Pairs excellently with lamb chops, chorizo, aged Manchego, or mushroom risotto. Drinking beautifully now, will continue developing over 5-8 years
