From Boston College to a Top Draft Selection Matt Ryan was born in Exton, Pennsylvania, in 1985 and developed into one of the leading quarterbacks in Boston College history. After serving as a reserve during the early stages of his college career, he became the permanent starter and guided the Eagles to consecutive seasons with at least 10 victories. The Historic 2016 MVP Season Ryan produced the finest season of his career in 2016. Operating within one of the most productive offences in football history, he completed 69.9 per cent of his passes for 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. His passer rating of 117.1 led the league, while Atlanta scored 540 regular-season points. Ryan threw touchdown passes to a wide range of teammates, demonstrating his ability to read each defence and distribute the ball throughout the offence. The Falcons finished 11–5 and won the NFC South. In the divisional round, Ryan passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns as Atlanta defeated Seattle 36–20. The final game at the Georgia Dome followed against Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game. He completed his 15-year career with 62,792 passing yards, 5,551 completions and 381 touchdown passes. At the time of his retirement, he ranked among the top 10 in the major career passing categories. His individual achievements include four Pro Bowl selections, the 2008 Offensive Rookie of the Year award, the 2016 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards, and First-Team All-Pro recognition. Ryan signed a one-day contract with Atlanta in 2024, allowing him to retire as a Falcon. After working in broadcasting, he returned to the franchise in 2026 as President of Football, beginning a new chapter with the team whose offence he led for 14 seasons.
