The Czech international arrived at Juventus from Lazio in 2001 and immediately became indispensable — his box-to-box running, his technical quality on the ball and his ability to score goals from midfield making him the kind of midfielder who could influence matches from the first minute to the last. Nedvěd won two Serie A titles with Juventus and was a key figure in the club's sustained Champions League presence during his time in Turin. His most notorious moment in the competition came in the 2003 semi-final against AC Milan, when a booking in the first leg meant he missed the final in his home city of Manchester — a cruel twist that the Czech supporters in the crowd that night felt particularly acutely. His quality was confirmed by a final that Juventus lost on penalties, in which a fit Nedvěd would almost certainly have been the decisive presence.
