Think of Gigondas as Châteauneuf-du-Pape's little brother: same sunny southern Rhône, same love of Grenache, but often a bit fresher thanks to the higher vineyards. So it makes sense that the Brunel family, who've owned Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf since 1945, make one too. 2021 was a cooler year, and the wine is more elegant than usual, with red cherries, blackberries, liquorice and dried herbs. Smooth tannins, lovely length. Try it with game, mushroom stew or a proper cheese board.
