Meaning 'from the Cape' in Latin, Capensis represents a joint venture between Antony Beck and Barbara Banke, dedicated to crafting one of the world's finest Chardonnays. Sourced from high-altitude, ancient vineyards across the region, this vintage captures the thrilling balance of cool-climate maritime tension, intense mineral drive, and rich, Burgundian-style complexity.. By blending fruit from distinct, old-vine coastal sites in Stellenbosch, Overberg, and Robertson, winemaker Graham Weerts creates a masterclass in concentration and elegance. Barrel-fermented and matured in fine French oak, it delivers a luxurious palate packed with citrus blossom, toasted brioche, and crushed chalk minerality, making it a world-class choice for lovers of ultra-premium Chardonnay.. Vineyard & Production. The grapes are hand-selected from small, dry-farmed vineyard parcels situated on mountain slopes throughout the Western Cape, featuring ancient sandstone and granite soils. The fruit undergoes careful whole-bunch pressing before being transferred directly to French oak barrels (a combination of new and seasoned oak) for natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts. The wine remains on its fine lees with regular stirring for over ten months to build texture and complexity, followed by malolactic maturation to integrate its vibrant natural acidity.. Tasting Notes. In the glass, it displays a bright, luminous golden hue.
