Errazuriz is one of Chile's great wine dynasties, and the Don Maximiano estate in the Aconcagua Valley is their crown jewel. Villa is the estate's approachable expression, drawing on the same exceptional vineyard blocks as the flagship Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve but crafted for earlier enjoyment. The combination of volcanic and alluvial soils, hillside aspect, and the cooling Pacific breezes that enter the valley each evening produces wines of remarkable freshness and precision. At this price, it is one of the most compelling bottles from South America.. Vineyard & Production. The grapes are sourced from the Don Maximiano vineyard in the Aconcagua Valley, where Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1978 and Carmenere planted in 1993 grow on north and northeast-facing hillsides with slopes of 5-25 degrees. The volcanic, colluvial, and alluvial soils with 30-50% stone content provide excellent drainage and low to moderate vigour, concentrating flavour naturally. The long dry season with moderately warm days is tempered by soft evening breezes from the Pacific, preserving natural acidity and aromatic freshness. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (35% new), with 5% in concrete egg and 5% in foudre, adding complexity and texture while maintaining the wine's fresh, vertical character.. Tasting Notes. Bright ruby red in colour with violet sparkles. The nose offers aromas of fresh rose petals, pomegranate, strawberry, and raspberry, with soft notes of tobacco and cinnamon. On the palate, fresh red fruits dominated by raspberry and pomegranate are framed by a chalky texture, delicate tannins, and excellent acidity that accentuates the wine's vertical, fresh character. The finish is long and persistent.. Perfect Pairings. A natural partner for roasted lamb, grilled beef, venison, and hearty stews.
