Sourced exclusively from premium, high-altitude estate vineyards influenced by cold winds sweeping off False Bay, this flagship Chardonnay combines intense citrus and stone fruit concentration with classic Burgundian restraint and oak subtlety.. The unique coastal microclimate of the Vergelegen estate allows the grapes to ripen slowly, locking in bright natural acidity alongside profound phenolic complexity. Barrel-fermented and aged on its fine lees in top-tier French oak, it delivers a multi-layered profile of ripe citrus, white peach, roasted nuts, and subtle brioche notes, offering a poised palate texture that promises exceptional grace in the cellar.. Vineyard & Production. The grapes are hand-selected from mature, low-yielding vineyard blocks planted on weathered granite and clay-rich soils on the south-to-south-west facing slopes of the estate. Harvesting takes place in the cool morning hours to preserve pure varietal aromatics. Following whole-bunch pressing, the juice is settled before being transferred directly to French oak barrels (a combination of new, second, and third-fill) for natural and inoculated fermentation. The wine undergoes regular battonage (lees stirring) over several months to build richness and creaminess before final blending and bottling.. Tasting Notes.
